A diet for high cholesterol is only part of the solution

There was this friend of mine who started a business dealing with organic foods. He decided that if he wanted to convince people about buying his organically grown vegetables and fruits, it was necessary for him to maintain a proper diet and be healthy himself. Of course, it is important here to remember that looking healthy is different from really being so. It was only after he visited his physician and ran a few tests, that he discovered that his cholesterol was really high and hand climbed north in the last six months. His wife was quick to add that this rise was also aggravated by the fact that he had been through a lot of stress while setting up the business. Be that as it may, this guy realized he could take no more chances. He therefore decided to get his dietician to draw up a cholesterol lowering diet that he would be able to follow and incorporate into his daily lifestyle.

For his wife, who was a bank employee, this diet became the bane of her existence. She just could not cope with having to cook a whole set of food without oil, minus this or minus that. Cooking became and chore that she could hardly do without cribbing. She knew that if she did not do something about it soon, she would be finding herself getting into a state of hypertension – something as damaging and harmful as high cholesterol. The cholesterol lowering diet was therefore taken to a lifestyle expert who then got them both to come in for a few sittings or counseling sessions

.
It was during these sessions that both husband and wife realized that it was not necessary to really go by a rigorous diet. There was no need to cook different things in an even more different way. This was quite an eye opener to both of them who now felt that it would be a lot easier on their tempers to be able to eat the same thing without sacrificing on taste and quality. This is the first lesson that people should learn when trying to adopt a cholesterol lowering diet.

Over a period of time, it becomes obvious to all members of the family that doing a mild form of exercise, eating healthy foods, concentrating on work only when necessary and taking time off to spend with friends and family is a lot more important for a good and prolonged life, rather than sticking to a cholesterol lowering diet implicitly. Quite a few lifestyle gurus today are able to put this in a very simple way to their followers. Simple lives make healthier people, simple diets also do. So please quit the idea of thinking of specialized diets, now or ever.
